Mistura: The Power of Food
(38 minutes) Peru

Director/Producer: Patricia Perez

Description:
In Peru, cooking and eating go beyond the kitchen. The nation’s passion for food transcends pots and pans. Peru finds in its cuisine its missing ingredient: a way to celebrate being Peruvian. A way to love, show respect and be proud. Mistura, the gastronomic fair that happens in Lima every September, is the best example. This project is an attempt to capture a slice of the immense spectrum of experiences that are simmered in Mistura every year.  A place where cooks and patrons passionately teach us not only about food but most importantly about life.

Biography:
Patricia Perez was born and raised in Lima, Peru. After finishing her undergraduate film studies at the University of Lima, she worked for several TV stations and production companies in Peru.  A grant from the Fulbright Commission took her then to the US to pursue her MFA in film directing. Once at Ohio University, Patricia had the opportunity to make two short films that were shown in various festivals around the world. She was also selected by the university to participate in various international academic programs such as Imaginary Academy, a screenwriting workshop in Groznjan, Croatia, and Josephine, a production internship with the feature film of the same name in Munich, Germany, among others. After finishing her studies and working in Peru as first art director for TV commercials, Patricia was accepted, after a very competitive selection process, into the Directors Guild of America Training Program.
