UNDER THE CANOPY
(22 min) Colombia

[watch trailer]

Director: Michal Krawczyk

Description:

Set in the Andean-Amazon Piedmont of Colombia, this community-led participatory documentary is filmed by the community itself, using phones, drones and trail cameras as tools of collective authorship. Blending collaborative filmmaking with Indigenous media, the film follows biodiversity mapping and reforestation practices while foregrounding Traditional Ecological Knowledge as lived, relational and future-facing. Knowledge here is not extracted but co-created through everyday engagements with the forest. Trail cameras shift from surveillance to relation, while digital tools intertwine with ancestral ways of knowing. Extending into a shared editing process with an Indigenous editor, the film embraces collective authorship at every stage–reframing cinema as a decolonial, relational practice grounded in community, territory and care.
