Directors/Producers: Paul Bikis, Ghislaine Couvillat

Description:

It is a story about three outdoor enthusiasts determined to reclaim their lives after sustaining traumatic spinal-cord injuries. Driven by unbreakable willpower–Josh, Anna and Danielle each embark on a daring and personal adventure with the hope of finding new ways to access places that make them feel most alive. Anna Soens aims to become the first paraplegic athlete to summit Mount Baker, a towering 10,781-foot glaciated volcano in Washington State. Josh Hancock leads a custom adaptive raft expedition down the wild, scenic Salmon River in Idaho. Danielle Doelling takes on the ultimate test of endurance, attempting to hand-cycle 87 miles across the rugged terrain of the White Rim Trail, in the Canyonlands National Park, Utah. While the pursuit of adventure is their shared goal, each of their stories reveals a deeper journey–one of resilience, self-discovery and post-traumatic growth.

Biography:

Paul Bikis is an award-winning filmmaker focused on sharing heartfelt stories that leave a lasting impact. Growing up surrounded by nature, Bikis developed a deep connection to the environment, which sparked his interest in photography at an early age. His journey into filmmaking began in middle school when he got his first Panasonic cassette camera and started documenting his friends' skiing and mountain biking adventures. Paul went on to study visual journalism. Bikis's filmmaking career took a transformative turn when he moved back home to assist with his mother's hospice care, an experience that profoundly impacted him. The loss of his mother not only reshaped his personal life but also deeply influenced his approach to storytelling.

Ghislaine Couvillat owns and runs Whipped Sea, an independent production company based in France that operates globally. Whipped Sea's primary focus is producing bold and cinematic feature length documentaries and docu-series with a human interest, adventure or environmental theme.
