Description:
Through the lens of his own recovery, a filmmaker offers a character-driven look inside the billion dollar addiction treatment industry where young people are bought and sold for their insurance policies and ushered into a system designed to keep them sick. What begins as an investigation of a street-level scam, explodes to uncover systemic conflicts-of-interest and collusion at the highest levels of government.
Biography:
Benjamin Flaherty is a filmmaker and photographer with a diverse collection of work over the past fifteen years–from documentary and art films with Lou Reed and Julian Schnabel to commercial spots for major brands like Humana and KFC. His short form PSA’s have been awarded at Cannes, D&AD, One Show and the Clios. He is currently in post-production on his documentary feature debut, Shuffle, recipient of a 2020 Enterprise Development Grant for Investigative Journalism from the International Documentary Association. He’s lived and worked in Berlin, New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.
