After twenty years of war, the United States’ chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan left hundreds of thousands of Afghan interpreters and other allies behind as the Taliban quickly retook the country. Fearing retribution for his brave work with allied forces, beloved interpreter “Max” and his family of ten are forced into hiding as they desperately struggle to escape Afghanistan. Meanwhile in the US, Max’s contacts and their network of supporters work frantically to navigate the complicated process established by the US government to bring these allies to safety. Told through frenzied communications between Max, his devoted Marine friends and their network, we witness the surreal situation unfold over time as the group confronts the harsh realities of our broken system and a world that moves on.
Biography:
Patti Bonnet is a documentary filmmaker whose work focuses on social justice and cultural awareness. She was Co-Producer on We Are Not Done Yet for HBO Documentary Films, Line Producer on Racing Extinction, and Co-Director/Producer on the documentary short Come Back to Sudan, which won Aspen Shortsfest's Audience Award. She was a Cultural Delegate in Rwanda for the US State Department’s American Documentary Showcase. She has worked for National Geographic, MacNeil/Lehrer Newshour, and This Week with David Brinkley.
