Dear Friends,

In these difficult times we are grateful that we have you, our UNAFF community, and our shared passion for promoting human rights through documentary film.

As one of the oldest solely documentary film festivals in the US, UNAFF has grown and earned the respect of audiences and filmmakers alike for its fearless independence and integrity. In addition to providing early outlets for films, many of which later went on to win major awards and accolades, UNAFF prides itself in creating a community forum with year-round programs facilitating education and dialogue about different cultures, issues, and solutions.

Our filmmakers who bring us all of these incredible documentaries have been deeply affected by the pandemic and many are struggling financially. As a consequence, we have been receiving a hugely increased number of submission fee waiver requests, while screening fees are higher than ever. All of this is adversely affecting the festival budget. Unfortunately, all of our other year-round programs have been greatly impacted as well, from our “UNAFF for Seniors” weekly screenings in San Jose, Palo Alto, and Sunnyvale, to our “UNAFF in Libraries” program, which serves more than 20 libraries throughout Santa Clara County, to our programs for veterans, students, women, and kids.

As a non-profit organization, we, like so many others, are struggling to bridge this period of crisis, and we need your help to ensure that we will be able to continue our work.

What our future will look like is in your hands, and now is the time to ensure that it includes engaging and impactful festivals like UNAFF. We know that the documentary community is resilient and inventive and we trust that with your support UNAFF will overcome the all the challenges.

Your tax-deductible donation is essential for us to continue with all these valuable programs for our community.
