Description:
A unique access portrait of a group of Western women who devoted their young lives to ISIS, but who now want to be given the chance to start over, back home in the West. Among them is British recruit Shamima Begum, who fled the country when she was 15, and Hoda Muthana from the US who incited her followers on Twitter to go on drive-bys and kill Americans. Universally reviled by the media, these women now tell their stories for the very first time. These young women left their countries as teenagers to join ISIS. Now they want to return but their countries don't want them back.
Biography:
Alba Sotorra is
an independent filmmaker and producer working in high-end,
challenging creative documentaries and fiction films based on real
stories and characters. She is an EAVE graduate (European Audiovisual
Entrepreneurs), and the founder of the audiovisual production company
Alba Sotorra S.L., based in Barcelona. She
participated in SOURCES2, Berlinale Talent Campus, Dokincubator, IDFA
Academy and EAVE Producers Workshop. She is a member of Dones
Visuals.
Vesna
Cudic is an international film sales
and acquisitions specialist and a new business developer, highly
experienced in setting up a film sales business, in negotiating and
acquiring premium content, and in closing deals on content rights
with worldwide broadcasters, distributors and global SVOD providers.
In 2011 she was instrumental in launching the International Sales arm
of Dogwoof, the UK's leading distributor of documentaries. Her credits include: Misha
and the Wolves, Leftover
Women, and The
Return: Life After ISIS.
Carles Torras is
a filmmaker from Barcelona, Spain. He is a director and producer from
his own company Zabriskie Films, known for The
Paramedic and Callback,
Best Film, Best Screenplay and Best Actor at the Malaga Film Festival
2016. He also directed and wrote Open
24h, Trash and Joves.
