LEARNING TO SKATEBOARD IN A WARZONE (IF YOU'RE A GIRL)
(40 min) Afghanistan/US

SUNDAY 10/27 1:20 PM (SESSION 23)

Director: Carol Dysinger

Description:

Skateistan recruits kids from impoverished neighborhoods and teaches them education and life skills, so they can return to, or join, the public school system and get a fair start in life. For girls, the chance to skateboard presents a unique experience—to compete, to play, to learn their strengths and to gain courage. The film follows a class of girls at Skateistan during a school year as they grow through the joy of skateboarding and the warmth of the women who teach them.
