Description: Ahmad Ghunaim films the bombing of his home and the horrors of Gaza on his smartphone. The film follows him as he becomes a refugee, living in hospitals, cars, and tents. This is his new terrifying reality but he keeps filming. Ahmad tries to stay alive, starting each video with “Hi, it’s Ahmad, I’m alive”. Ahmad Alive chronicles 126 days of displacement until he eventually evacuates to Johannesburg, where he continues to amplify Palestinian voices through mobile journalism.
Biography:
Aurelia Driver is a film and digital media producer and writer working in the USA, South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique, and India. Her recent work with SeenTV was as Head of Content, where she led a team of journalists and editors to produce citizen-led content for a youth audience. Aurelia founded and ran South African production company, Monkey Films, where she produced over two hundred commercials and music promos as well as the feature film, Boy Called Twist, South Africa’s official selection for the Cannes Film Festival.
Yusuf Omar is co-founder of SeenTV, a next generation media company that uses AR to transform everyday people into journalists. Yusuf has empowered over 20,000 people in 140 countries to make video stories with their phones. He is an award-winning journalist and Tedx speaker, and was previously at CNN International in London. Yusuf has also covered the Syrian Civil War and other conflicts.
