As in every year, the United Nations Association Film Festival offers unique stories that appeal to a wide audience by giving voice to the voiceless. For the first time ever, in an effort to create a dialogue with future generations and deepen global understanding, UNAFF is holding screenings in East Palo Alto (Oct. 8 at Eastside Theater, 2101 Pulgas Avenue). By doing so, the festival is offering youth who wouldn‚t necessarily be able to, the opportunity to see films that resonate with issues readily recognized in their communities, to attend roundtable discussions, and to learn directly from visiting filmmakers how to become involved with documentary filmmaking as a tool to promote their culture and issues. The festival runs from October 19-23 at Stanford University. For more information please call 650-724 5544 or visit www.unaff.org

More than 800 million people worldwide are malnourished. 11 million children die every year before the age of 5. 432 million women worldwide are illiterate. More than 47 million people live with HIV/AIDS. Every day we are painfully reminded of the world around us and our exposure to its unresolved problems. But the 8th annual United Nations Association Film Festival is making A STATEMENT OF HOPE AND COURAGE, with it‚s chosen films reflecting the most critical events facing people around the world today, from as far away as Kyrgistan or the Chagos Islands, or as familiar as Italy or Canada. The UNAFF offers unique stories that appeal to a wide audience by giving voice to the voiceless. The festival runs from October 19-23 at Stanford University.
